‘Decorum #1’ (review)

Written by Jonathan Hickman
Art by Mike Huddleston
Published by Image Comics

Writer Jonathan Hickman is all over the place these days.

First, we have his retooling of the X-Men franchise that is going  gangbusters over at Marvel.

And now we have another book that Hickman is writing. This time, it is a creator owned title by him and artist Mike Huddleston. It is an absolutely fantastic book.

The story has so much depth and layers introduced just from the very first issue. The beginning of the book introduces us to a series of planets in a thorough manner.

Nobody is better than Hickman in creating a vibrant setting for his comic.

You have to read it for yourself as it is an experience. There is no other way to describe it.

The universe in this book is in a decline. The Empire is falling. We are introduced to the character of Neha. Neha works as a courier in this vast universe.  She is tasked to take packages from place to place. We follow her a bit and her story is intriguing.

We also get to meet a vast array of characters. They are very well developed and charming. The plot itself is a bit of a mystery. There are subtle hints and clues as to what it is. But the full picture isn’t there yet. What is there, however is super damn interesting.

Mike Huddleston does the work of his career here. The artwork is simply awesome. Without the art, the book may not have worked as well.

Together, this creative team has given us one of the best new comics of the year. It is quite an astonishing book.

RATING: A+
