This book is totally insane and I love it! Tom Taylor is writing one of my favorite new series of the year here with this book.
In this mini-series, the DC characters are dealing with a zombie type of outbreak. And the storytelling is incredible and the art is out of this world. I honestly can’t get enough of this story. It’s great.
We start out by seeing Alfred standing over the bodies of both Batman and Robin. He apologizes that he couldn’t save them.
Then, he hops aboard a Batwing and starts bombing the crap out of some zombies! What more do you need than that? That was worth picking up the book just for that scene alone! It’s awesome!
Turns out, there is a lot more macabre fun to be had. A zombie version of the Joker is running loose! Harley Quinn decides to put him out of his misery and takes him down.
Then, she runs across a zombie version of the Birds of Prey! Things go from bad to worse here and I couldn’t look away! I got completely hooked!
Harley Quinn then says “I guess we are bird hunting.” And I laughed out loud.
Tom Taylor does an astonishing job of keeping things moving and keeping the reader’s interest high. Superman has some of the remaining heroes left with him, and they are trying to clean up and save the world. But can they do it? Or are they all going to wind up being members of the undead?
Taylor also shows that it’s happening everywhere on earth. It’s even happening in Atlantis. We get a tense scene there.
The ending of the issue has one hell of a wild scene at the Kent farm. It’s brutal and Superman’s last line is absolutely haunting. It’s really that good.
The art by Trevor Hairsine is tops. He really is the perfect artist for this book. The writing and the art have a certain glee to it, almost as if the creators are saying “can you believe that we are getting away with this?” I’m glad that they are, and I’ll be reading whatever they create here.
It’s a fantastic pleasure that is anything but guilty.
