Batman Receives Hollywood Walk of Fame Star
and Guinness World Records Title
Fan Activation at Funko Hollywood with Jim Lee Will Feature Rare Public Appearance of
Batman-Related Items from Warner Bros. Archives, Photo Opportunities, and More
On Thursday, September 26, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will honor Batman with the 2,790th star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame. Batman’s story of determination and grit has inspired generation after generation around the world. He is vengeance. He is the night. He is Batman.
Notable not for having any superpowers but for his intelligence, skill, and technical savvy, Batman is one of the most iconic characters in the world and is beloved worldwide thanks to his portrayal in comics, TV shows, animation, film, and more since he first appeared in 1939’s Detective Comics #27. Batman is the first superhero character that the Hollywood Walk of Fame will honor with a star. Batman’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star will be dedicated next to the star of television’s Batman, Adam West, and the co-creator of Batman, Bob Kane.
DC’s president, publisher, and chief creative officer, Jim Lee, and DC’s senior vice president and general manager, Anne DePies, will attend the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on Thursday, September 26, at 11:30 a.m. PT at 6764 Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Hollywood Guinness World Records Museum when Batman, in character costume, receives his star in the category of motion pictures.
In conjunction with the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, Batman will be awarded the Guinness World Records title for the first superhero with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a special presentation by official GWR adjudicator Michael Empric. Other notable Guinness World Records titles that have been awarded include Detective Comics as the longest-running comic book (continuously published since 1938), and in 2012 Batman was recognized as the most adapted comic book character (live-action movies), from Batman’s full-length movie in 1966 up to The Dark Knight Rises. Guinness World Records also recognizes Batman for having the most Oscar winners to play one superhero (George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck), for having the most video game adaptations of a superhero movie, and more.
In collaboration with Funko, an all-day fan event on September 26 will take place alongside the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony at Funko Hollywood (6201 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028). Jim Lee will participate in an exclusive one-hour meet and greet and signing for Batman fans at Funko Hollywood from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Attendees for this exclusive signing will be limited to fans who received a wristband.
Wristbands will be distributed to the first 100 fans who purchase a Batman product at Funko Hollywood on Tuesday, September 24, two days prior to the event. No outside product is permitted. One wristband per person. Wristbands are available on a first-come, first-served basis. On the day of the signing, fans can begin lining up at 9:00 a.m.
Warner Bros. Archives will also stage a curated pop-up museum of costumes and props from Batman’s history in film and TV at Funko Hollywood. Authentic props, iconic costumes—and some surprises—will allow audiences a rare chance to enjoy pieces of Batman cinematic history up close and in person. More details will be announced soon.
Created for DC Comics by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, Batman and his story have transcended into one of the great American myths. Batman is simultaneously the Dark Knight, the Caped Crusader, and the World’s Greatest Detective, and has stood as a symbol of justice, strength, and fearlessness for generations of fans for 85 years and counting. Batman’s legendary star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame goes down in history as another first for the character, and for DC.
DC Announces Batman: Dark Patterns
There Is a Dark City and the Knight That Protects It:
A new series of lo-fi, mystery-focused Batman stories
DC has announced new twelve-issue comic book series by creators Dan Watters and Hayden Sherman, Batman: Dark Patterns, focused on a new cycle of crimes for the World’s Greatest Detective to crack. Set during the early years of Batman’s career, Batman: Dark Patterns delves into four mysterious cases as he attempts to cement his place as Gotham City’s protector while the city itself fights back against him. This is the Dark Knight Detective at his most stripped-down core, a man relying on his wits, his skills, and little else as he tackles some of the most twisted mysteries Gotham City and its protector have ever encountered.
“I love the strangeness of Batman. A man dressed as a huge, gothic bat, solving crimes in a hostile city of black magicians, mad scientists, and superstitious, cowardly criminals. I’ve always wanted to write a series of mystery stories that would home in on that aspect of the character—a dweller in the shadows of Gotham’s towering, dilapidated spires,” said Watters. “After watching The Batman, this desire was reaffirmed. Batman: Dark Patterns explores the pulpiest part of the Dark Knight’s rich history and gives readers an entirely new perspective on the early years of DC’s Dark Detective.”
Batman: Dark Patterns will be told as a series of four self-contained, street level, evergreen Batman mysteries exploring the early days of Batman’s place within Gotham City and his healing presence within its streets.
The first case and story arc, “We Are Wounded,” involves a series of sickeningly gruesome murders sending shock waves through Gotham City. Are these the random works of a serial killer, or is there something more sinister at play? Across these first three issues of Batman: Dark Patterns, Batman attempts to get to the bottom of the mystery before any more victims are claimed.
“Each case is born from Gotham and its people adapting to the horrors they’ve been subjected to over recent and not so recent years—from Joker poisoning the water supply to the Falcone gang war. The criminals are superstitious and cowardly… but how could the whole city not be superstitious and afraid?” continued Watters. “And Batman’s role as a wounded healer shrouded in urban myth, who seeks to give hope to the hopeless.”
Batman: Dark Patterns follows the tradition of books such as Year One, The Long Halloween, and Dark Victory. Writer Dan Watters (Nightwing) teams up with the incredible Hayden Sherman (Absolute Wonder Woman) to tell a series of three-part, standalone mysteries set in the early days of Batman’s career, as the detective comes to accept and embrace his own place as a new part of the mythology of Gotham.
Batman: Dark Patterns #1, written by Watters, art by Sherman, color by Tríona Farrell and lettering by Frank Cvetkovic, will publish on December 11 with covers by Sherman and a variant cover by Stevan Subic. Visit your local comic book shop for more details and preordering.
DC Announces Metamorpho: The Element Man
Join us for this covalent bond of friends and foes in the brand-new ongoing
comic book series from superstar team Al Ewing and Steve Lieber!
DC has announced a new ongoing “All In” comic book series by creators Al Ewing and Steve Lieber—Metamorpho: The Element Man—that fab freak who can change himself into any element in the human body!
“This is 100% fun comics, delivered with total confidence, visceral joy and absolutely no winking to the camera,” said Ewing about the new series. “It’s a love letter to Bob Haney, Ramona Fradon and the spirit of superheroes at their wildest and weirdest—we’re aiming to catch the essential fab-freakiness of Metamorpho like lightning in a bottle and get groovy with it in our own special way.”
“It’s such a joy to work on this book with these collaborators,” shared Lieber. “Al Ewing’s scripts are an absolute delight, and Lee Loughridge’s color is impeccable. And as a long-time fan of Bob Haney and Ramona Fradon, I can’t believe I get to follow in their footsteps.”
To know him is to love him. He’s the one and only Rex Mason, alias Metamorpho… but can even he win out against Cy.C.L.O.P.S., the hairy eyeball of crime that gazes from the top of the pop charts to the lowest depths of evil—and even into the far-off, far-out Ra-Realm? To find out, the Element Man must survive a hand-picked assassin who can match him change for change… and that’s just the first issue!
“This is our take on classic DC comics,” continued Ewing. “Done-in-ones that’ll satisfy discerning Metamaniacs month by month as they build up to something so far out that it might just be a one-way ticket to nowheresville for a certain freak of a thousand changes! Who is the menacing Mister 3? What’s the sinister secret of Sugar Sweet? Who’s the target of Vandal Savage’s million-year revenge? All these way-out mysteries and more will be answered in the New Age of Metamorpho—it’s our Xmas gift to you!”
Metamorpho: The Element Man #1, written by Al Ewing, interior art and main cover by Steve Lieber, colors by Lee Loughridge and lettering Ferran Delgado, will publish on December 25 with variant covers by Erica Henderson, Ian Bertram and Steve Beach. DC Announces the First Two-Face
Comic Book Series in the Character’s History!
Has Harvey Dent defeated his dark side?
DC has announced a new limited comic book series by creators Christian Ward and Fábio Veras, Two-Face, the first series for Gotham City’s notorious Super-Villain (and sometimes good guy) Harvey Dent. In the tradition of recently completed and villain-focused comic book series The Penguin, DC’s new “All In” series Two-Face explores the good and bad sides of Harvey Dent as two characters operating and living in the same body. As the good Harvey explores a Perry Mason-like life as an attorney-at-law, bad Harvey doesn’t just want partial control of the body, but full control of the mind!
“After falling in love with writing the beautiful, complicate, Harvey in Batman: City of Madness,” said Ward, “I couldn’t be more excited to be, or prouder, to be writing Two-Face’s very first solo series! Two-Face is without any hesitation not just my favourite Batman villain but my favourite character in all of Gotham, and I’m thrilled to be taking him, together with superstar artist in the making Fábio Veras and the legends that are colourist Ivan Plascencia and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, to some wild places you might not be expecting. The first of which takes Harvey Dent back to the courtroom.”
After years of internal conflict, both halves of Harvey Dent have reached an uneasy peace. In DC’s new Two-Face series, Harvey uses his skills as an attorney to resolve the conflicts of Gotham’s weirdest and most dangerous criminals, starting with Victor Zsasz. When Zsasz is accused of murdering a fellow member of Gotham’s underworld contingent, who better to prove a criminal’s innocence than someone who’s been on both sides of the law?
“In our series, Harvey is trying to use his criminology skills to resolve the conflicts of Gotham’s weird and dangerous criminal underground…all the while he has his eye on a return to civilized society and perhaps reconciling with his old friend, Bruce Wayne,” said Ward. “So all rise, court is in session, Harvey has tossed his coin and judgment is about to land!”
Two-Face #1, written by Christian Ward, art by Fábio Veras, colors by Ivan Plascencia and lettering by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, will publish on December 4 with a main cover by Baldemar Rivas and variant covers by Ward, Chris Samnee, and Leonardo Romero.
