Image Comics has a great history of bringing us some truly original content. That certainly is the case with this new comic book.

Reminiscent of Indiana Jones, this new book here called Compass is actually great fun.

Best of all, it is a completely new starting point for an entertaining new comic book!

Shahidah El-Amin is our main character here. She has many things she can do well such as being a mathematician, a scholar, explorer, and an adventurer amongst many other things.

That last trait is what gets this story here in motion.

She gets wind that somewhere out there in the world is the secret to eternal life. So, she leaves from Baghdad’s legendary House of Wisdom to see if she can track it on down. But there is more than just that. Shahidah is looking for something much bigger.

We immediately get see some conflict as she goes off on her quest. The book is very fast paced and does not let up from that very first panel. It is very enjoyable if a bit slight. But I am very intrigued and interested to see where it goes.

The writing is very strong. I love the little twists and turns. The artwork is well done too. It does leave off on a cliffhanger but I expected nothing less. It is a solid first issue and the whole book is bursting with ideas and fun.

RATING: B+
