‘Collapser #5’ (review)

This has been a fun and unique storyline.

Mikey Way and Shaun Simon have really written a great little comic for the Young Animal line of books. I love what they have done with it. I am only sad that this is the penultimate issue. Still, I am excited to see how they end this story.

The opening sequence has a pair of criminals committing a crime.

Then, Liam sweeps in and saves the day. He is dressed as a comic book superhero. Then, he goes home and sneaks into bed and kisses his very pregnant wife.

It made me wonder just what the heck was going on here!

Liam has some crazy dreams about his wife getting killed by scary monsters. He dreams about destruction. But he wakes up. It is just a nightmare, right? Or is it something much more sinister? I was so intrigued that I just could not stop reading this.

Liam goes about his day. He walks around the city. He tries to go about his day. But something seems off. That’s when his powers start to go berserk. Can he get them under control? Or is he going to destroy this new reality that has been created and quite possibly himself?

People in Liam’s life start to come apart. Things get really crazy. Liam himself starts to question his reality. Then, he sees someone who may have a hand in all this craziness. It is his father.

But his father is dead?

Or is he?

Mikey Way and Shaun Simon do a hell of a job writing this book and making the story a quality one. The art by Ilias Kyriazis is pretty amazing, too. I am sad that this is ending as it has been a pretty great ride thus far. It is books like this that make me happy that the Young Animal imprint is still happening.
