Smekday, Nicholas Flamel, Jurassic Park 4 and More!

Actor/director Rob Reiner might put his SAG card to good use, possibly joining the cast of Martin Scorsese‘s The Wolf of Wall Street.  Reiner would play Max Belfort, the father of Leonardo DiCaprio‘s character, flamboyant and disgraced stockbroker Jordan Belfort.

Julian McMahon is joining the ensemble for Robert Luketic‘s corporate thriller Paranoia opposite Liam Hemsworth, Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford, and Amber Heard.

After years of false starts, writers Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) have been hired by Universal to write Jurassic Park 4Steven Spielberg will produce with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall.  The original Jurassic Park is being rereleased in 3D on July 19th, 2013.



Edward James Olmos will twirl his mustache as the bad guy in Baltasar Kormakur‘s Two Guns playing Papi Greco, a dangerous Mexican druglord who runs up against the protags played by Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington.  “Wahlberg and Washington star as a Navy SEAL and a DEA agent,
respectively, who work together despite not knowing that the each is
doing so undercover. When the duo steal millions from the CIA, they
discover double-crossing associates who will do anything to retrieve the
money. Pic co-stars Bill Paxton as a high-ranking CIA operative and
Paula Patton as a DEA agent who serves as Washington’s possible love
interest.”  The film is based on a graphic novel from Boom! Studios and was adapted by.

Author Michael Scott will adapt the first book in his The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series, The Alchemyst, for Australia-based AMCPO Films.  “The Alchemyst centers on legendary 14th century French alchemist Nicholas Flamel,
who discovered the elixir of eternal life and is still alive today. The
secret to immortality is hidden in a book that, in the wrong hands,
could destroy the world. When Dr. John Dee steals the book, 15-year-old
twins Sophie and Josh Newman are the only ones with the power to save
mankind.”  Production is set to begin in February in Australia and New Zealand.

Based on Adam Rex‘s The True Meaning of Smekday, DreamWorks has hired Jim Parsons and Rhianna to voice the leads in their adaptation, Happy Smekday!  “In Smekday!, a friendly alien race invades Earth and uses it as
a hideout from their mortal enemy. When one lowly alien accidentally
notifies the enemies of his whereabouts, he is forced to go on the run
with a teenage girl, embarking on a comical road trip across a
postapocalyptic America and learning what it really means to be human.”

Village Voice film critic and author Andrew Sarris has passed away.

Character actor Richard Lynch has passed away.

Actress Susan Tyrell has passed away.

Ivan Reitman is attached to direct Draft Day based on a script by Rajiv Joseph and Scott Rothman for Paramount Pictures.  “The script revolves around the general manager of the Buffalo Bills as
he spends the day of the National Football League draft frantically
trying to get the number one pick for his struggling team.”
