Cine-Geek Nuggets: Rose Byrne Gets An Internship, Susan Sarandon Is An Angel, Justin Long Quits Smoking & More!


Justin Long is in talks to play the lead in writer-director Tom Holland‘s modernized adaptation of the Stephen King short story, The Ten O’clock People.  “The story
follows Pearson’s attempt to quit smoking and the unknown and terrifying
aspect of reality that he uncovers as he tries to kick.” 

Stephen Moyer is taking out his fangs to join the cast of Atom Egoyen‘s film about the wrongfully convicted and imprisoned West Memphis 3, The Devil’s Knot.  Moyer will play prosecutor John Fogelman in the film, joining a large ensemble which includes Colin Firth, Reese Witherspoon and Alessandro Nivola.  “Devil’s Knot tells the true story of how, despite no
psychical evidence, teens Jason Baldwin, Damien Echols and Jessie
Misskelley were found guilty and jailed for a triple homicide in 1993.
They were finally released last year.”

Dylan McDermott has joined the cast of Antoine Fuqua‘s White House Taken as a Secret Service agent, “tasked with saving the president (Aaron Eckhart) and his residence
after a group of North Korean soldiers take the White House hostage.”
Angela Bassett and Ethan Hawke are also in the cast.

Rose Byrne is joining The Internship, Shawn Levy‘s upcoming comedy starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn as
about two unemployed, 40-something guys trying to start new careers at
the absolute bottom of the ladder at a Silicon Valley tech firm.  Byrne would play an upper management executive
who starts a relationship with Wilson’s character and JoAnna Garcia Swisher will co-star as Vaughn’s love interest.

Colman Domingo will play a White House butler who works in the Executive Mansion in The Butler, directed by Lee Daniels.  “The film is based on the life
of Eugene Allen (Forest Whitaker), a White House servant who worked for eight First
Families over three decades.”  The cast includes Oprah Winfrey, Matthew McConaughey as John F. Kennedy, John
Cusack
as Richard Nixon, Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan, and Jane Fonda
as Nancy Reagan.   Also starring are Cuba Gooding Jr, David Oyelowo, Lenny Kravitz, Jess Williams and Alex Pettyfer

Susan Sarandon will voice the role of Barb the Angel in the R-rated stop-motion comedy Hell & Back, which is about two buddies who, “must rescue their pal who has been accidentally dragged to Hell.”  The voice cast includes Nick Swardson, TJ Miller, Jennifer Coolidge, Maria Bamford, Mila Kunis, Bob Odenkirk, and Rob Riggle.

M. Night Shyamalan‘s After Earth starring Will and Jayden Smith gets a synopsis:

In After Earth,
one thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape
from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind’s new home. Legendary General
Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of
duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old
son, Kitai (played by Jaden Smith). When an asteroid storm damages
Cypher and Kitai’s craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and
dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must
trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His
whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his
father. Today, he gets his chance.
