Here’s the first look of Idris Elba as Stacker Pentecost in next summer’s Giant Monster vs. Robot movie, Pacific Rim. The Guillermo del Toro directed epic also stars Ron Perlman, Rinko Kikuchi and Charlie Hunnam.
Matthew Modine has joined the cast of the Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs biopic, Jobs. “Modine will play John Sculley, whom Jobs recruited to lead Apple in 1983 and famously “fired” Jobs two years later. Sculley remained as Apple CEO until 1993.”
Joel Silver has acquired through his Dark Castle Entertainment, the film Loft, an English-language remake from director Erik Van Looy of his own 2008 Belgian film. The thriller follows five married friends who share a loft where each brings his mistress. When the dead body of an unknown woman is found there, they begin to suspect one another of murder. The cast includes Wentworth Miller, James Marsden, Karl Urban, Eric Stonestreet, Matthias Schoenaerts, Rhona Mitra, Isabel Lucas, Rachael Taylor, Margarita Levieva and Kristin Lehman.
Emma Watson is joining the cast of Darren Aronofsky‘s biblical tale, Noah, replacing Dakota Fanning who was cast but couldn’t make the schedule work. Liev Schreiber has also been mentioned as the role of Noah’s nemesis, a part that was previously linked to Liam Neeson. Noah’s wife, Naameth, was originally rumored to be portrayed by Jennifer Connelly, apparently might be played by Julianne Moore.
Warner Bros. is after the rights to make a film based on The Guinness Book of World Records. Yep.
Ashley Greene will play Lisa Kristal, the daughter of CBGB owner Hilly Kristal who will be played by Alan Rickman in the upcoming film CBGB, about the legendary New York music club. “Script depicts the younger Kristal as a fiery young woman who frequently clashes with her father but ends up working as the business manager of his club. She later attended law school to help her dad keep CBGB afloat before it shuttered in 2008.”
Vincent Cassel is looking to rejoin Viggo Mortensen in a sequel to David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises. Written by Steven Knight (who also wrote the original), “picks up where the 2007 film left off — with the incompetent underboss Kirill (Cassel) thinking that he and his henchman driver Nikolai (Mortensen) really have inherited the throne from his crime-lord father, without knowing that Nikolai is actually a clandestine agent working undercover in Russia’s federal security service.”
Abbie Cornish has been offered the female lead in Jose Padilha‘s RoboCop remake. She will portray the wife of Alex Murphy, who is killed and resurrected (without her knowledge) as RoboCop. This is yet another interesting deviation from the original which had Murphy’s female partner, Officer Lewis portrayed by Nancy Allen, as the film’s female lead.
