This comic book has been an extremely well illustrated run so far by Joëlle Jones. The storytelling and pacing have been exemplary.
I wish she had a stronger writer as it’s dragged a bit, but the sharp art makes everything seem just a bit better. And that’s a good thing for sure.
Catwoman is on her way to talk to the villainous Mrs. Creel! In the beginning of the issue, she comes across a bunch of Creel’s thugs. It’s a vivid and fun scene brought to life by Jones and her wonderful and fluid art.
I especially like the moment where Catwoman has a gun pointed at her head and how she gets out of it.
She moves at the speed of lightning here and it’s damn exciting!
From there, we see Mrs. Creel spend the rest of the issue trying to get Catwoman to work for her. But Catwoman is not having it!
She does everything in her power to fight the powers that are after her. She even shows Creel that she has some blackmail against her, in typical Catwoman fashion. Jones keeps things going in a very good way. The biggest problem for Selina may be getting out of this situation alive.
By the end of the issue, Catwoman is on the run and trying to stay alive. The local police are after her, as she soon discovers. And then things only get worse from there. It becomes a little bit insane by the end of the issue. The series as a whole could have stood for more moments just like that. But it’s not terrible.
The story is the biggest problem again. It just seems a bit light. The rest of the elements here work well except for that. Maybe we can get a stronger writer on this. I feel like the series would vastly improve if we had one, giving us higher stakes than what is displayed here.
