Written and Illustrated by Neal Adams
Published by DC Comics
But as crazy as that issue was, this one might indeed top it.
Neal Adams is a legend for sure. However, with each and every issue of this series, he pushes the “crazy” levels to be higher and higher. This might be the highest level of crazy we have seen from him, especially in the last few years.
And that is saying a lot.
The issue starts off with Ra’s al Ghul talking to a statue of Batman. The dialogue is incredibly heavy handed and I confess that I had no real idea why this was happening. But whatever, let’s go with it!
A goddess like woman shows up and Ra’s just pretty much yells at her.
It is then that we see Ra’s has Batman strapped to a chair. Just what is going on here?
We then cut over to Wayne Manor!
Bruce and a few of the Robins are having a little gathering. Things get a little heated and two of the Robins leave. But then, those two Robins discover a couple of Man-Bats in the Batcave. The two Man-Bats take the Robins into the air!
They discover that there is something amiss with Alfred. He seems to be a robot and the real Alfred is all tied up. I honestly didn’t know what the hell was going on.
And by the time we got to the end, I had no idea what had happened. Even worse, I didn’t even care.
The art is sloppy and the storytelling is lazy. I think at this point that Adams needs a strong writer and a strong art director. It is hard to get into and very difficult to enjoy. I feel like this is the comic book version of a tornado. Just let it pass through and pray for minimal damage.
