The first issue of this anthology series was pretty damn good.
It had new takes on various characters in Gotham City. This issue picks up from where those stories left off and I have to say that this issue is pretty great as well.
I am loving what is happening here.
The first story is the book is by writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Eddy Barrows.
It is a Red Hood story that is unlike any that has come before it.
Jason Todd has now committed murder. He now has to take his victim’s son and keep him safe. Batman is on the hunt for the Red Hood and this leads to some incredible conflict.
The next story in the book is about the Grifter character.
This story shows why Cole Cash is Gotham City acting as a bodyguard to Lucius Fox. It shows how he has to deal with the Halo Corporation and the various conflicts that he had to face that made him end up where he is. Matthew Rosenberg writes an amazing script here and the art by Ryan Benjamin is perfect.
The next story is part two of a story about The Outsiders. This is probably my least favorite story in the book. This whole story is from Katana’s perspective and it shows why and how The Outsiders traveled to Japan. There are a few nice exchanges. We then also learn that Katana’s husband’s spirit is no longer in her sword. This all leads to a decent cliffhanger, I will say.
Finally, the last story of the book is by writer Cecil Castellucci and drawn by Marguerite Sauvage.
It is a welcome tale about Barbara Gordon story that is quite well done. It is nice to see Castellucci writing the Barbara Gordon character as well.
All in all, this is a great book and really has a lot of value and story packed into it!
