Man, the first issue of this three issue series was off the charts incredible.
It was full of action, drama, and all around craziness. This issue continues the complete awesomeness of the first issue and pushes it even further.
I can’t believe the places the creative team take us in this issue. This is truly excellent.
I have to admit, the first issue had one of the most incredible endings I have seen in quite some time. It also was one of the most gruesome moments in the history of a Batman title.
This issue picks up where that issue left off with Jason Todd aka The Red Hood’s having made a brutal decision.
That decision is discussed at the beginning of the book here. The discussion becomes an ethics discussion, but it is so well handled I didn’t mind.
Johns does a great job of keeping the book moving above anything else with his dialogue. We get to see Jason as we have never seen him before.
He is out there ferociously hunting down the Jokers. We get to see a scene of that and Jason beating up on thugs. He is trying to get some answers of where the Jokers are and what their plan actually is.
That mystery is the thrust of the story.
We get to see the Jokers unroll their plan. Of course, it is really crazy. We also get to see Batman, the Red Hood, and Batgirl go to extreme lengths to try and hunt these Jokers down.
Who are they?
Why is there more than one Joker?
All these questions and more permeate the book.
Geoff Johns writes an amazing script again with this issue. Artist Jason Fabok does a stunning job as well with this issue. The art is deep and the story is rich. Both of these creators are doing the best work of their careers.
This is the best series DC has put out this year, bar none. I can’t get enough of this. Well done.
