This book is completely and utterly insane. That’s part of the charm though. When I first heard what the storyline would be, I didn’t really care for the idea that much. Then, I started to read the actual book and I’m happy to say that it is much better than I originally thought it was going to be. I am enjoying this very much.
The beginning of this issue has Batman and Superman facing off against the Shazam Who Laughs. It is awesomely drawn by David Marquez and is one hell of a fight. The most brutal moment is when Superman is ready to punch Captain Marvel and then he reverts to Billy Batson, looking all innocent. He then transforms back to the Shazam Who Laughs and resumes the epic fight! It’s moments like this that really make this special.
The fight is absolutely brutal! And then, the Shazam Who Laughs escapes. This gives Batman and Superman some time to recuperate. They go forth and try to figure out how the Shazam Who Laughs defeated them. They also try to figure out what might be coming next.
They decide that maybe the best course of action is to give the Batman Who Laughs exactly what he wants. This leads into some certified craziness. And that is when we see one of the most crazy things to come down the pike in quite some tome: The Superman Who Laughs.
But is Superman undercover? Or has he been possessed? Williamson does an incredible job writing this title. It’s brutally and darkly fun. The art again is amazing and Marquez has really come into his own.
It’s a great read that only feels too short. But that is okay. I just want the next issue as soon as humanly possible.
