‘Batman/Superman #17’ (review)

Written by Gene Luen Yang
Art by Ivan Reis
Published by DC Comics

I really enjoyed the new creative team’s first issue.

I didn’t understand what the heck was going on for a lot of it. But that was okay. I enjoyed being off balance to be honest.

Once the clues started setting in, I had a really great time with it.
This issue picks up where the last one left off.

We see that we are in a new world here.

In this world, Superman’s rocket never left Krypton.

This world’s Batman and his sidekick discover a new dimension. In this one,  Martha Wayne has survived and Bruce just never became Batman.

What is happening here?

This issue is designed to keep the reader off balance, but there is enough there to keep it completely compelling.

There is an alien that shows up that can do all of the things that Superman used to do.

The two worlds start to collide.

A completely different reality starts to form.

That is when we meet just who is responsible for all of this chaos. It is rather unexpected  and totally crazy. But I love where we ended up by the end of the issue.

The story by Yang is strong and surprisingly character driven. I was interested in everything going on and intrigued as to what is happening. The artwork by Ivan Reis is very good as well and gives us tons of exciting images.

This is truly a good issue and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

RATING: A
