The Joker War story that has been raging through this book continues here.
The last issue ended on an interesting cliffhanger so I was intrigued to see where exactly we might end up this time. I was hoping that we might get to someplace interesting.
The book pretty much starts off where we left off last issue.
Batman is in a theatre full of people hopped up on some Joker toxin. The film The Mark of Zorro is playing and the patrons are ready to kill the Batman. It is a frightening scene to say the least!
A huge fight erupts between Batman and the patrons.
The theatre goes down in flames. Batman eventually gets himself out of that horrifying predicament.
The Joker is really laying into Batman physically and psychologically.
Can Bruce hold it together much longer?
We also get to see the Joker acting like an Emperor of Gotham in a way with the already overused Punchline.
The Joker is planning something even bigger. His followers are growing. Does Batman even stand a chance? Things are looking pretty bleak in Gotham at the moment. Batman looks like he is going to need help from Catwoman and some other characters if he is going to win this battle.
This is definitely an improvement over Tynion’s earlier issues. There are still a lot of awkward moments, but it isn’t boring at least.
Jimenez holds it all together with his fantastic art however, and makes even the rougher moments shine.
