‘Batman #81’ (review)

Written by Tom King
Art by John Romita Jr.
and Mitch Gerads
Published by DC Comics

“City of Bane” rages on in this issue! A lot of amazing things have happened leading up to this. Now, Tom King is cutting loose with this storyline. It is a hell of a lot of fun and one heck of a comic book.

This issue is where the comic book just goes into overdrive!

The opening scene has the Flashpoint Batman Thomas Wayne holding a gun to Damian Wayne. He can’t bring himself to kill Damian. But then Damian gets free!

Once he does, the coolest thing happens. The Flashpoint Batman is is surrounded by many members of the Batman family! It is a cool visual by John Romita Jr. and it gets the story off right!

This scene is intercut with Batman and Catwoman fighting a bunch of Bane’s goons outside of Arkham Asylum. The two scenes are full of some amazing action! Eventually, the Batman gang think they have beaten Thomas Wayne. But he retaliates with a vengeance! Thomas Wayne eventually gets away.

Meanwhile, Batman has made his way into Arkham Asylum with Catwoman. They go through a few things. They keep advancing deeper and deeper into the Asylum. They are on their way to confronting Bane.

The last two pages are drawn by Mitch Gerads and they are the best of the issue. It ties into the Year Of The Villain and I enjoyed it. It is a decent enough comic book. I’m interested to see how this all wraps up. I know it will be very cool for sure.

RATING: A-
