This book has really been great this past year.
Writer Cecil Castellucci has taken this comic and has made an emotional story filled with action. I wasn’t sure how she would do initially, but this has honestly been great. This issue is pretty damn interesting as well.
At the beginning of the issue, we see that Batgirl is dead.
The problem is, Barbara Gordon is alive!
Just wait is going on here?
Well, we quickly learn that is a mystery afoot. Who was this fake Batgirl and why was she killed?
It is a great premise to start the book.
Things get even more complicated when Barbara’s’ brother, James Gordon, the former serial killer, shows up. Is he the one responsible for the murder?
Or is he just there to be creepy?
Castellucci keeps us guessing throughout the issue with her excellent script. It has a lot of bright spots to it.
Barbara and her father Commissioner Gordon go looking into this case. It isn’t long before Barbara has to suit up as Batgirl to look into things. She eventually comes up against the villain of the issue in a totally unexpected way. It is very nicely handled and powerful.
The story here is great. The art by Robbi Rodriguez. however, is out of this world. There are some pages near the end that just blew me put of my seat. This is a fine issue overall but man, the art in this issue is something else entirely.
This issue is really great overall.
