“Baskin-Robbins Always Finds Out”: Larry’s Family Ranks The MCU

The family took one of those “Rank Your Favorite Marvel Movie Test” things that is obviously a way for Russian bots to farm info off my Facebook feed but since we are all pretty open with our opinions over there, every once in a while you get some good data in return in exchange for some 1950s Russian think tank to learn I think Star Trek: Discovery is not a very good iteration of the Star Trek ideals and that I like football over baseball but still follow the Red Sox and Giants religiously.

But here’s our rankings.

My son Walker likes Iron Man 3, for the reasons I’m so disappointed in it. He loves the barrel of monkeys mid-air rescue and the Tennessee kid helping Tony through his post NY PTSD and I hate everything about that because I love Shane Black and I know what he’s capable of and a Kiss Kiss Bang Bang remake with Disney money shouldn’t be THAT. That was Tony Stark: The Adventure Begins and not Iron Man 3.

Iron Man 2 has its problems but at least it’s an Iron Man movie.

My hilarious take-away from this is that three of the four audience quadrants pretty much agree on the top five and the bottom five Marvel movies and the middle are dealer’s choices.

I actually think Ant-Man being everyone’s second choice is awesome.

There’s no reason my wife or kid would like a 1970s thriller with Cap as much as I do, or that the parents would care about the Marvel kid superhero as much as our kid superhero does, or the two boys would think Guardians of The Galaxy is as funny as Mommy does because we live that wise-ass space adventure every day.

I love the Three Days of the Condor vibe in Winter Soldier. They even got Robert Redford to be in it, just in case you missed the reference.

But the next one down, for the whole family? Ant-Man, Ant-Man, Ant-Man.

Somebody’s doing something right. But, honestly, it was a meme going around of HOW YOU FEEL RIGHT NOW. My top five and bottom five would be the same on any given day but the middle is a churn.

I’m very much looking forward to Captain Marvel.
