Ava has recently undergone an exorcism and remembers little of the last month.
Now she is picking up the pieces of her personal life and trying to get her job back on track with the help of the Spirit Possession Anonymous support group she is attending.
As she puts her life back together and starts piecing together the events of the past month she can’t answer the important questions of “How and why was she possessed?”
Ava’s Possessions is a fun and entertaining film with a great concept that unfortunately just doesn’t fully work, I just had the feeling that the intent of the film was to be funnier that the end product was.
The story and acting are all solid but I can’t help but wonder if another pass on the script could have punched up the dialogue and character interactions to be a bit funnier. But if we learned anything from 1990’s Repossessed, we know that comedies about demonic possession aren’t easy, but Ava’s Possessions make some moves in the right direction.
Director Jordan Galland put a lot of work into the stylistic look of Ava’s Possessions and it pays off, the lighting and atmosphere of the film is very impressive. Also the cast all seem to work well off of each other and lead actress Louisa Krause is certainly someone to keep an eye on in the future.
If the idea of a possession themed comedy pique’s your interest then you should definitely seek out Ava’s Possessions on VOD, but if you are just looking for a comedy then you may want to wait until it pops up on Netflix where the watch is less of an investment.
