Written and Illustrated by Amy Reeder
Published by DC Comics
This title is spinning out of the comic Young Justice where Amethyst was recently reintroduced. This book is written and illustrated by Amy Reeder who is a fairly decent creator. How does this first issue fare?
The opening scene has Amy Wilson a.k.a. Amethyst, sitting with her earthbound parents. They are sitting around catching up before Amy goes on her journey.
You see, Amethyst wants to get back to her magical kingdom. So she makes her way back there. She is shocked at what she finds when she gets back.
Amethyst finds her entire kingdom in ruins. All of her colleagues are scattered. Amethyst spends the issue trying to get it all back together.
She first goes to visit her best friend who is Lady Turquoise. Lady Turquoise has no idea what is going on because her kingdom has problems of it’s own.
Amethyst and Lady Turquoise have a disagreement.
Amethyst is pretty much thrown out. She is then followed by a girl who wants to aid her on her quest. The scene in which this happens is cute.
Then, we get a brief look at the villain of the book and that is pretty much where it leaves off.
It is a decent enough book. The writing is pretty basic. It is fine but it isn’t the most original. Reeder does a great job on the art, however, and the whole book is really nicely designed. This book won’t change the world, but it is pleasant enough to read once. Not bad, overall.
