This book has been truly amazing.
Just when I think that it cannot get any better, it does. This issue is a little different from the main storyline.
In fact, it is a mini anthology comic book that plays into the main story. I absolutely and positively loved it.
These stories are meant to bridge the gap between the Second Cycle series and this one.
The first story of the book is about Jim Book and Pearl trying to find new DNA in order to destroy the Beast once and for all.
This story features art by Tula Lotay and it is gorgeous to look at and just gaze at.
The next story in the book is about Travis and Gus.
They are both in exile and are really feeling it. Then, the two of them have an unexpected moment between them. It’s wonderful. The art by Francesco Francavilla and he does an exemplary job as always.
The final story in the book shows us a story about George Washington’s past.
It shows how he relates to the Council of Firsts. It also shows a hidden pact and how a deal was struck to make America a haven for monsters. The art is by the completely underrated Ricardo Lopez Ortiz and it is pretty great.
Overall, this is a fantastic book. The art is great in all three chapters and the script by Scott Snyder is great. I love that this is a little breather before the grand finale.
It is a nice standalone issue but also plays into the regular series a bunch, giving it a nice backstory that fills in some of the blanks nicely.
