‘Adventureman #4’ (review)

Written by Matt Fraction
Art by Terry Dodson
Published by Image Comics

This is a fresh take on some old superhero concepts.

Writer Matt Fraction does a great job of giving this book a bunch of fantastic twists and turns. He also makes sure that there is a touch of emotion and humanity that really makes this a standout title.

The world is in jeopardy. The evil forces of the last few issues have enacted their plan. The Baron and Baroness Bizarre have the Phaedra Phantom imprisoned. This seems to spell doom for the rest of the world. Everyone is in a dark place as this issue begins.

Claire Connell has to make a choice.

She is in a bit of turmoil. The choice seems to involve passing along the Adventureman mantle to a new generation.

She does make her choice in this issue. It is an emotional one for sure and the creative team really nails it.

That is when the action erupts. It is pretty spectacular.

The Connell family have to fight for their lives here, possibly even to the death. There has never been this much at stake.

Can they possibly survive this and save the world in the process?

This might be writer Matt Fraction’s finest moment of his writing career. The art by Terry Dodson definitely is the best work he has ever done.

The whole book is full of really great things from start to finish.

This is one of the best releases of the year. It is filled with adventure, excitement and good storytelling. Well done.
