The latest iteration of the Suicide Squad has been really a bunch of weird and inconsistent fun. The stories are action packed but I am never sure of which way they are headed sometimes. There is also no real clear identity of what this team actually represents.
With that, we head into this year’s annual.
This issue has a bit of a focus on Conner Kent. Nobody knows why Amanda Waller was so hot on getting this guy onto the team. But we get to see a big part of that reason here.
We get to see Superboy sneak into a top secret Task Force X spot. While there, he gets to see some of the things that has been hidden from him. He finds out some things that change both his viewpoints and his own personal history.
Conner learns his origin and it is not what he originally thought it was. This sends him reeling as everything that he thought was real is now different. How does Conner deal with this news? More importantly, where does he go from here?
The story by Robbie Thompson is really strong. I love everything that he is doing here and this is his strongest script to date. The art by Dexter Soy is perfect as well.
Overall, this is a fine annual and it has some real standout moments.
