‘Suicide Squad: Get Joker! #1’ (review)

Written by Brian Azzarello
Art by Alex Maleev
Published by DC Comics

This is a damn fine addition to the DC Black Label imprint.

I have to say that I wish the Suicide Squad looked like this in the regular books. This is dark and brutal and well paced and it certainly doesn’t hold back in the least bit.

The opening of this book shows Batman and the Jason Todd Robin and their history together. We get to see the two of them and see some of their past times together.

Then, we get to see the Joker beat Jason Todd to a pulp.

That’s when he becomes the Red Hood. It is a nice beginning that sets up the craziness that follows.

The story segues into seeing Amanda Waller wanting to grab the Joker. We get to see some of the lead up to them setting up to do just that.

It is a pretty great set up.

The Red Hood is recruited by Waller to go capture the Joker. Then, we are off to the races! We get to see the team form. It is fun and then the team heads off to hunt down the Joker. It gets pretty intense.

The writing by Azzarello is pretty damn good. The story is tight and doesn’t hold back. The art is some of Maleev’s best.

This is a pretty strong comic book, and one that I enjoyed very much. I can’t wait to see where we end up with this.

RATING: A
