‘Superman: Son of Kal-El #1’ (review)

Written by Tom Taylor
Art by John Timms
Published by DC Comics

There is something really exciting going on in the Superman books right now.

After years of languishing under some really boring decisions, the creative teams are really doing some exciting books. This is one of those books and it is very well done.

Jonathan Kent has taken over his own Superman book.

Reading this, it just feels right. We get to see how Jonathan has developed as a character here. At the beginning of the book, we get to see that a meta human is causing a big forest fire.

The forest fire is raging out of control. It is up to Jonathan to stop it. We see him do exactly that but we also get to see him deal with the meta human threat as well.

It is an exciting start to this new series that seems rife with potential.

It is really great to see the time the creative team has put into this. Jonathan tries to find peaceful solutions for things like his father.

In fact, the parallels between the two of them are pretty amazing. There are some really nice touches.

Tom Taylor is a pretty great writer and his script shines here. This is well done and well written. John Timms is an awesome artist who finally seems to be getting his due.

Overall this is a strong start to what could be an excellent series.

RATING: A
