THE WAR OF THE BOUNTY HUNTERS CONTINUES!
Three storylines converge in the search for not only the carbonized block of Han Solo, but for bounty hunter legend Boba Fett himself.
I sincerely like the twist of Boba Fett having a bounty on his head.
You don’t get to be one of the biggest badasses in all of Star Wars without making plenty of fierce enemies.
However, as I’ve gripped previously, Jabba the Hutt being the bounty initiator cheapens Jabba’s character.
Jabba didn’t get to where his is by failing upwards. Putting a bounty on the head of the most notorious bounty hunter in the galaxy isn’t to be taken lightly. If he’s wrong and Boba Fett didn’t sell the carbonized block of Han Solo to a higher bidder (which he did not,) he’ll have one of the biggest badasses in all of Star Wars on his lumpy, fat… well, tail.
Besides, seeing Jabba and Boba all kumbaya in Return of the Jedi destroys any potential proper tension between the two.
In this issue, the bounty hunters Valance and Dengar, last seen in Bounty Hunters #12, cross paths with Chewbacca and C3PO, last seen in Star Wars #13. Both parties looking for the next clue to finding Solo. However, Dengar isn’t exactly on the same page as the others. He wants Fett as well, and that’s a problem for the rest.
While Chewie and 3PO depart before learning of a crucial piece of information, Valance learns what we all learned in the previous issue, War of the Bounty Hunters #1: That Crimson Dawn is back!
Meanwhile, we catch up with bounty hunters T’onga and Losha. Well, for me, properly introduced.
If you’re just following the War of the Bounty Hunters storyline, they were briefly seen in Bounty Hunters #12. If you’ve been with the Bounty Hunters series since the beginning, you already know all about these characters.
I’m at a disadvantage, trying to figure out how T’onga and Losha fit into the grand scheme of things. But I’m digging getting to know them and their back story.
Overall, fun issue.
I love Chewie getting to be Chewie and it’s great seeing him and 3PO bond after their adventures in The Empire Strikes Back. We pick up more about Valance’s and Han’s backstory and feel the growing threat that Crimson Dawn poses to the Galaxy.
One last note. I’ve been trying to find an organic way to work this into a review since the beginning.
I can’t.
I mention it now because the preview copy I read misspelled the overall story’s central location, the moon Nar Shaddaa. I assume that this will be corrected for general release.
Nerd Kudos must be given to whomever created the name Nar Shaddaa. I’m guessing that they’re a Doctor Who fan and named the moon after the infamous uncompleted Douglas Adams Doctor Who story, Shada.
