‘Spider-Man: The Spider’s Shadow #3’ (review)

Written by Chip Zdarksy
Art by Pasqual Ferry
Published by Marvel Comics

This is a great spin done in the usual “What If?” fashion.

Basically, the whole conceit behind the book is “What if Peter Parker had become Venom?”

It turns out, a lot could happen if that was the case and all of it is pretty entertaining.

We get to see Peter going around New York City like a real nutcase, beating the hell out of a bunch of villains. His colleagues take notice, especially the Fantastic Four, and he pretty much beats the hell out of them too. It is a bunch of fun.

Spider-Man’s greatest enemies band together to then take him down.

Man, they sure try. But at this point, Peter may be too powerful for even them. We get to see him systematically take down his enemies and it is a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

The symbiotic is bonding with Peter though. Even more so than usual. Soon, there may be no turning back for him. Reed Richards forms a plan but it may be too late. That leads to one of the coolest twists of the series by the end.

Chip Zdarksy writes a really great script here again. It is well done, and it pretty much fast and furious with a lot of character development. The art by Pasqual Ferry is great too. It may be the best work of his career.

Well done, overall.

RATING: A
