‘Spider-Man: The Spider’s Shadow #2’ (review)

Written by Chip Zdarksy
Art by Pasqual Ferry
Published by Marvel Comics

You really have to love Chip Zdarsky.

As a writer, he always gives us new insight on some classic characters.

That is exactly what he is doing with this series here.

The conceit is basically what if Peter Parker became Venom?

The results of that question are truly astounding.

This issue picks up right where the last one ended. Peter is pretty much under his alien suit’s control and he is actually enjoying it.

It is more than a little disturbing to see Peter in this role, but the creative team handles it pretty well.

Spider-Man has a new approach to dealing with crime and it is basically to beat the hell out of the criminals. Or worse!

This puts the city’s superheroes on high alert.

But it also puts the city’s supervillains on high alert as well.

One of them who decides to do something is Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin.

There is also another figure Peter will have to possibly contend with that wants him to suffer beyond the Kingpin. That being said, there may be someone unexpected who might be able to help him as well. But will it all be too late?

Zdarsky keeps both the drama and the excitement level high. It is honestly such a quick read because it flows so well. The art by Ferry is perfect as well. I love this book and I cannot get enough of it. I am almost sad that it is a five part series as I want more for sure.

RATING: A
