‘Man-Bat #3’ (review)

This series has been plodding along since the first issue. Part of the reason for that is that the story and the artwork don’t really meld together too well.

It feels like two different things are going on, neither of them terrible, but together feel completely strange.

The story here picks up with Kirk Langstrom having a total emotional collapse. He had a near death experience fighting the Suicide Squad and that has left him in a really bad state of mind.

We see him trying to pull it together without much in the way of success.

That is when Kirk basically crosses paths with Ms. Harley Quinn.

She offers Kirk some free psychological help. Harley probes Kirk’s mind in this issue and we get to see her actually do her old job. That plot point is actually the coolest part of the entire series thus far.

But things of course don’t go according to plan. Kirk has an opportunity to find peace with himself in this issue. He also has the opportunity to get much worse mentally as well. Guess which way the story goes? The whole thing for me lands with a thud.

This could be much better. I do so wish it was better! There is so many ways this book could have gone yet the creative team has taken the most basic one. Oh, well. Maybe it will pick up although at this point, but I highly doubt it.
