‘Beta Ray Bill #2’ (review)

Written and Illustrated by Daniel Warren Johnson
Published by Marvel Comics

The first issue of this book was one of my favorite Marvel books in recent years.

Daniel Warren Johnson is a major league talent and he has given this character a much needed revamp that really works well.

I love the direction that he went in with this book and it works quite well.

In this issue, we get to see Beta Ray Bill on the hunt to track down Odin. He is relentless in his quest to find him.

You see, Bill wants his Stormbreaker hammer and he will stop at nothing to get it back in his grasp!

But Odin isn’t the god that he used to be.

The King Of Asgard has fallen on some truly hard times. We then start to see that Stormbreaker doesn’t have a shot of coming back.

It is then that Odin comes up with an idea for Bill. It is one that makes a lot of sense.

Odin tells a story of a place where Bill can get his powers fully recharged!

This all sounds great. But of course, there is a price for all of this. It is a price that might be too high for Bill to take advantage of.

And then, we start to see that there are darker forces at work coming to take down our intrepid hero.

The whole issue is a real blast of excitement.

The storytelling here is off the charts. Johnson writes a fantastic script yet again. His art is really just exciting and interesting.

He may be the best creator to work on this character since Walter Simonson.  And that is really saying something.
