I love anthology series.

This book is much like the Batman: Black and White comic book except for the change of character and the color palette. The colors here are red and blue and each creative team use it to the fullest. This is an excellent book and I am excited that it is coming out.

The first story of the issue is by writer John Ridley and artists Clayton Henry. This is a hell of a story to begin the book on. Superman has to deal with a villain who still haunts him. It is a damn fine story. It also shows what Superman means to the entire world. I would love to see a full Superman series from these two creators after reading this story.

We then get a nice story by writer Brandon Easton and artist Steve Lieber. It is more the story of a person on the street and the way that they are dealing with their individual pain. It also shows what Superman means to this person. The story is awesome and Lieber is an excellent artist.

Next up, the story is by writer and artist Wes Craig. I love Craig and it is an inspired choice having him working on this title. His story is about the early days of Superman and we get a tale that basically informs who he eventually becomes. It is well done.

The next story is by writer Marguerite Bennett and artist Jill Thompson. I think the pair work wonderfully together and this may be Thompson’s best artwork to date. It is a story of a teenage Clark Kent and it really works well. Bravo.

The last story is by writer Dan Watters and artist Dani. This one is a rather crazy story about what happens when all of the colors are stolen. I enjoyed this one very much.

The whole book is a treasure. This is the sort of innovative stuff that DC puts together best.

RATING: A
