I haven’t been following a lot of the recent Marvel titles as I have found them completely impenetrable.
I just can’t figure out the continuity (if there is any to be had) and I can’t figure out who the characters are anymore.
There are are few bright spots (Donny Cates on Venom or Chip Zdarkdy’s Daredevil) but for the most part, it takes a lot for me to read a Marvel title these days.
So, when it was announced that Daniel Warren Johnson is going to be a Beta Ray Bill comic book, of course I am going to pick it up and read it.
Johnson is responsible for some of the coolest and more accessible comics in recent years.
So, to pick this up was an absolute joy. I was not disappointed in the least.
Johnson’s story takes us to after the events that occurred in the King In Black storyline. Beta Ray Bill is facing off against Fin Fang Foom.
Foom is being controlled by Knull and things aren’t going so great for Bill. His Stormbreaker hammer has been destroyed.
This leaves Bill in a very new place. He has to rediscover his purpose with it all. He has to find a new weapon and a way to defeat Fin Fang Foom.
By the end of this first issue, we see that it may prove harder than he ever would have thought possible!
The story itself is an easy and entertaining read. Johnson is as good a writer as he is an artist and this is great. The artwork is spectacular and I just love what he puts into his work.
Overall, this is awesome. I can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
