‘The Scumbag #5’ (review)

Written by Rick Remender
Art by Wes Craig
Published by Image Comics

This book has been bananas from the very first issue and I am enjoying it very much.

Co-creator Rick Remender has always been a good writer in my eyes and I love it when he cuts loose!

That is what he is doing in this series and the results are pretty damn impressive.

This issue is the end of the title’s first story arc, which was called “Jazz Apple Armageddon!”

So far, we have seen Ernie (The Scumbag of the series) go across the galaxy. He would always find the most horrible trouble out there and things would get out of control.

Last issue, he was at a party he wasn’t invited to.

This issue picks up the threads from that story. Here though, Ernie finds himself in a tough position. He can do the thing he always does, which is to be a Scumbag and help the bad guys win as usual.

Or, maybe there is hope for Ernie.

Maybe for once he will help the good guys win! We get to see Ernie’s decision making process on this. It is damn hysterical. The ending of this story is the best part of the series thus far. I laughed a lot during this issue as well.

It is a great comic. It is also damn cool that Remender’s partner in the comic Deadly Class, Mr. Wes Craig, draws this issue. I love Craig’s work and it is fantastic here.

This is hands down my favorite issue of the series thus far. Well done.
