‘Penultiman #5’ (review)

Written by Tom Peyer
Art by Alan Robinson
Published by Ahoy Comics

This comic book is yet another great completely out of this world comic book from Ahoy Comics.

The creative team here has taken an old superhero concept and have done new and exciting things with it. The book is highly entertaining and it has a lot on it’s mind. I loved every issue of this comic.

During the whole series, Penultiman has been trying to get himself out of a rut.

He tried a lot of things to do so. He even tried to use a self help book to get out of feeling the way he does. Yet, nothing seems to work. That is the exact place he is in when this issue starts up.

Antepenultiman has been trying to help out as well.

In this issue however, Antepenultiman has had it.

Enough is enough. He decides to confront Penultiman and put an end to it all. A fight erupts. Things get crazy. It all leads to one heck of an ending for this series.

Honestly, I didn’t know where this was all going and that is a good thing.

The script goes to some really dark places that I wasn’t expecting. It also explores themes such as mental illness in a sharp and pointed way that never feels too preachy. That’s very hard to do well.

Tom Peyer writes yet another strong script here. He is writing books unlike any other writer in comics right now.

They are incisive, sharp, and witty. The art by Alan Robinson is pretty damn great too, and together they have made one hell of a good comic.

RATING: A
