‘You Look Like Death: Tales From The Umbrella Academy #5’ (review)

Written by Gerard Way and Shaun Simon
Art by I.N.J. Culbard
Published by Dark Horse Comics

This has been a completely strange, yet completely enjoyable read.

Gerard Way, alongside co-writer Shaun Simon, has really expanded the Umbrella Academy brand with this series. It goes into some really unique and dark places.

This book focuses on the character of Klaus from The Umbrella Academy.

Klaus struck out on his own but ended up finding himself in a whole mess of problems. The plot involves a big conspiracy, a ton of drama, and even a crazy carnival of sorts with a bunch of crazy characters.

Klaus has made a decision in this issue to jump into the Void.

We get to see the Void and all of the things inside of it. But he has a mission.

You see, Klaus is out to find the dead wife of the vampire chimp boss. This actually proves to be much more difficult than Klaus had originally thought.

While he is there, Klaus gets some news about Vivian. He finds out that Vivian may be more evil than he ever thought she could be. Meanwhile, we get to see Vivian drop a bomb on a crew who are helping her and her starlet ways. Things get even crazier from there.

The result is a fine issue that never failed to keep my attention. This is the second to last issue so things are moving quicker. But that’s okay. It is a fine story and it has some excellent artwork by Culbard as always.

I enjoyed this very much.
