‘Stillwater By Zdarsky & Pérez #5’ (review)

Written by Chip Zdarsky
Art by Ramon K. Perez
Published by Image Comics

Chip Zdarsky really does write some of the more interesting books in the market. He makes characters that are relatable and the stories themselves are very well thought out. The book really does subvert expectations and does so in a way that feels completely new and fresh.

Dan West was brought to the town of Stillwater from a mysterious letter in the first issue. That letter made him travel there to deal with his great grand aunt’s estate. While there he discovers that the people in the town cannot die.

This leads to a whole bunch of horror which continues in this issue.

The people in this crazy town decide that they have had enough. They want to see if they can make the rest of the world aware of their town.

This would lead to big ramifications. Dan West sees that this is a bad thing and does everything in his power to prevent it.

But the group in this this town is determined. They are trying to convince the Judge in town that it is indeed time for a change. There is a huge conflict that happens and the whole book turns around because of it. It is seriously awesome.

The story is great but I must draw attention to the artwork of Ramon K. Perez. He does a great job on the book with the story and the characters. His look for the book is what makes this a winner and he must be praised. A good issue overall.

RATING: A
