‘Happy Hour #3’ (review)

Written by Peter Milligan
Art by Michael Montenat
Published by Ahoy Comics

This is another title coming out presently from Ahoy Comics that is well written and that also has a bit of social commentary in it.

Peter Milligan has always been a great writer and he proves it again here with this book. This is definitely one of the most underrated comics coming out presently.

In the future, unhappiness is a crime.

This book follows two fugitives, Jerry and Kim, who are on the run from the law.

They are both going through something in this issue that they weren’t at all expecting, which is paranoia. The two then are put through the wringer.

We get to see their relationship come apart slowly.

They become distrustful of each other and the whole issue becomes crazy. That is when they are kidnapped by a town. This is when the story really starts to take off!

I commend Milligan for this plot twist as it really works.

The town is having a pageant of joy which is both hilarious and horrifying. Jerry and Kim are the weekend’s entertainment as well. Their slow torture and eventual deaths will be the main event of the weekend! The two of them have to try to survive and escape this crazy town!

That may turn out to be harder than they expect.

The story never stops twisting and turning, yet it is all very focused. It is a great script for sure. The art is perfect and perfectly tempered as well.

I love this book and this is a pretty great issue.

RATING: A
