The Future State event has a bunch of titles coming out from it. Some look really interesting. The one that intrigued by the most, just by the creative team alone, was this title. I have to say that this did not disappoint me at all. This issue actually is pretty fantastic to say the least.
The story opens much like any other Batman book.
We to see a villain running down the streets of Gotham. Batman suddenly appears and chases the villain. Then, the two of them go at it and fight! It seemed pretty standard at this point.
Yet, Batman tells the “villain” that he is saving his life. Then, the police appear and Batman escapes.
Just what is going on here?
Well, Tim Fox is the new Batman in this.
And it is honestly a little refreshing. We get a brief scene with his mother before we are taken to the Little Santa Prisca neighborhood! We get to see Tim take on some Bane-looking criminals.
This leads to an ending that really made me want to read more!
The main story of the issue was great and I loved the way the story unraveled. It is a bit of a shame that they decided to pack some backup stories in this comic. The Arkham Knights one isn’t too bad but the one with the Outsiders is kind of lame. It would have better if they were left out.
The main story is great though.
John Ridley is a fantastic writer and he proves it again here. The story is thrilling and just plain awesome. The artwork is by one of my favorite artists, Nick Derington. He does a phenomenal job on this issue.
This is a truly great start to the Future State event!
