‘Future State: Superman of Metropolis #1’ (review)

Written by Sean Lewis, Brandon M. Easton
Art by John Timms, Valentine De Landro,
Cully Hamner, Michael Avon Oeming

Published by DC Comics

This issue was another Future State title that I was looking forward to.

The idea behind this is that Jon Kent is now Superman!

I was as excited as can be to see this idea executed. I have to say that I enjoyed this very much and it may have exceeded my expectations!

The issue starts off in the Metropolis in the future!

We get to see Jon as Superman facing off against the military! There is a bit of a fight and it ends with Jon going up against Brainiac. It is a hell of a confrontation too.

The two of them tussle and it ends in spectacular fashion!

Maybe a bit too spectacular. This confrontation ends and it seems that Supergirl isn’t too happy with the way that Job has handled it. But then, we see Kara taken over by Brainiac and things go to hell in a hand basket quickly.

This story ends on a high note for sure.

This issue also has two decent backup stories as well.

The one with Mister Miracle is quite good and it is well done. The story featuring the Guardian is quite good as well and I am interested to see how these two backups pan out. This is a solid issue overall.

The main story script by Sean Lewis is quite good. It is exciting and gives Superman a fresh look. The art by John Timms is excellent and dynamic. Timms has really come into his own as an artist and his work here is the best he has ever done.

All in all, this is a strong issue and one of the better Future State titles so far.

RATING: A
