‘Future State: Nightwing #1’ (review)

Written by Andrew Constant
Art by Nicola Scott
Published by DC Comics

This is another fine Future State book that I have to say that I enjoyed very much. I found this book in particular to be very creative. It takes what we usually see and subverts it in quite a unique way that I enjoyed very much. I had a great time with this.

The book starts off in Gotham City where the Magistrate has taken over. Things are looking pretty bleak. We immediately see a crime happening in an alley. That is when Nightwing shows up to stop the crime from occuring. But this version of Nightwing is a lot more intense than we remember.

We then cut over to the Magistrate headquarters when we see that they are taking notice of Nightwing. They also seem to have a plan in place.

The next scene takes place at a broken down Arkham Asylum. I was wondering why we were being taken to this place.

Then when I saw, I could not believe it.

It seems that Dick is using the Asylum as his headquarters! It is a sort of makeshift “Batcave.” I loved the creativity shown in this scene especially.

After that, the book really takes off as Dick and the Magistrate are on a collision course towards one another! The results are thrilling.

Writer Andrew Constant is the perfect writer for this book. He does a great with the characters and really moves things along in an entertaining fashion.

Artist Nicola Scott does an awesome job on the art as well. Maybe they can take this character over permanently?

They really made me sit up and pay attention.
