So, I have now read the entire Death Metal saga, from the main series, to all of the one shots, to the tie ins. I have to say that this was an awesome job by everyone involved. It is truly a story that is epic in scope and I am impressed that this issue wraps the whole thing up perfectly.
This series also serves as one of the best Wonder Woman stories that I have read.
Diana and her fight against the newly transformed Batman Who Laughs is what the issue is all about. We get to see them trade blows in an epic fight that literally involves all of creation.
Also fighting the dark forces, is every DC character you can possibly imagine!
Things get pretty crazy until the Batman Who Laughs forces Diana to make a decision. If she takes the offer he lays in front of her, then she will be betraying her moral compass.
But she may have to if everyone is to survive!
I won’t say what happens, but I will say it does lead to one of the best endings of any event series in a long time. It also makes the DC continuity seem a lot clearer than its been in a long time.
Although we are reminded that “everything matters” a sickeningly number of times in this series, it is done earnestly and it’s message is important for fans to remember.
Scott Snyder writes an excellent script yet again. Greg Capullo has done a heck of a job on this entire series and does great here as well.
This book feels like a last chapter of sorts for this creative team in the DC Universe. I hope not, but it will be tough to top this series.
