‘The Department of Truth #4’ (review)

Written by James Tynion IV
Art by Martin Simmonds
Published by Image Comics

Writer James Tynion IV is really doing a great job with this book.

The plots are inventive and exciting and are pretty intricate. I do wish for a different artist as it is a bit hard to follow and sometimes feels like the art is actually working against them.

In this issue, the Department of Truth finds themselves sent after the group known as the Fourth Estate.

They start to investigate this group and all of their known activities. What they find out leads to more questions and even a few more then terrifying answers.

Meanwhile, we get to see a reporter who is having some impossible things happening to them.

The biggest thing is that they are getting these strange packages being sent to them to indulge in. These packages contain stories that cannot be possible. Things get pretty intense with this particular plot line.

We see that the packages were sent by someone mysterious named Q.

Who are they?

We get to see Agent Cole digging into this. It may also have something to do with his past. A lot of things converge by the issue’s end and it is pretty damn entertaining overall.

The story is very good. Tynion does great work here on this. It is a step above what he normally does. This would have made a great Vertigo book back in the day.

It has some good sensibilities to it and makes for a great read overall.

RATING: B+
