This book has been a strange trip to say the least.
Chelsea Cain has a really unique way of writing a comic book that can turn you off at times. It also can be very enlightening and creative about what can be accomplished with the comic book form in general.
This issue is the end of this miniseries.
Cain has made her main character, super spy Nora Freud, full of fun quirks. At the start of the issue, we get to see her in a submarine underwater. She is off to fight a super villain in an undersea laboratory.
Seems simple, right?
Yet, Cain makes even the mundane seem peculiar.
We get to see Nora make her way underwater. Along the way we get the usual interruptions, some more fun than others. These are all unique interruptions at the very least and are more about design than story.
Nora eventually faces off against the villain. This leads into a revelation that was pretty cool. Cain eventually ends this series on a light and silly note.
I enjoyed it but wasn’t super impressed. It made me laugh but was by no means in the realm of a classic story.
The art is very good. Lia Miternique is definitely a talent, and this book is an excellent showcase for her artwork. Every page is awesome.
Overall, this wasn’t bad, but could have been slightly better. It is an enjoyable read that makes you feels empty at the end.
