Ahoy Comics has done it again with this title.
Peter Milligan has always been a strong writer and he knocks it out of park with his writing here. It is smart and funny and even a bit terrifying.
This is a great book from start to finish.
This book is about a future America where being happy is a law.
It is a story about Kim and Jerry, who are on the run from the Joy Police. When we first see them, they are undergoing some sort of weird experiment and they break free from that. We then see them on the lam, trying to find a safe haven for themselves.
It is a lot harder than they think.
They keep coming up against some crazy obstacles. Their van ride is full of craziness. They come across a town where they have an encounter with the Joy Police. It does not go as expected.
But that is just the tip of the iceberg here.
Kim and Jerry are trying desperately to fight the urge to be happy. As a result, we get to see the two of them coming apart. It is brutal and emotional to watch. It is also sort of brilliant as well.
Milligan really taps into the zeitgeist here and does a great job of making these characters and their emotions relatable. The art is perfect as well and is as expressive as can be.
This is a great new title and I can’t wait to see where this excellent creative tram takes us next.
