‘Detective Comics #1033’ (review)

Written by Peter J. Tomasi
Art by Brad Walker
Published by DC Comics

Writer Peter J. Tomasi seems to be leaving the exact same way he came in: By writing a solid story with excellent characterizations. I am sorry to see him go, but his writing made this book my favorite Bat-book on the stands. This is a great run that will stand the test of time.

This issue (and the last one) is a nice coda for Tomasi’s run.

We get to see Bruce at an interesting place in his life. He finds himself at odds with the people of Gotham City. ]

There is a new mayoral candidate named Christopher Nakano. And his arrival is not good news for the Batman.
You see, Nakano is against vigilantes. He also knows just what to say to fire up the citizens of Gotham City. If Nakano gets his way, it may be the end for Batman’s way of life as well as for the entire Bat-family.

This could mean a big change in Gotham City’s future.

The rogues gallery is fired up! The city is ready to burst! What follows is some of the best moments of Tomasi’s run. It is pretty perfect. The way he resolved everything is fantastic. I love the last few pages especially and won’t forget them anytime soon.

Artist Brad Walker does the best work of his career here. The artwork is spectacular and the storytelling is perfect. He is my favorite artist of Tomasi’s tenure.

This is a perfect ending for a classic run. I can’t wait to reread the entire thing.

RATING: A
