Well, here we are again. DC has put out a new holiday special for the year!
These are always a mixed bag of stories. Some are really strong usually and some are a little weaker.
And I cracked this open to see which is which.
The opening story is about Harley Quinn and it is literally about her having a pretty hard holiday.
It actually is pretty entertaining and it has a nice script by Nick Giovanetti and Paul Scheer. Steve Lieber does a great job with the artwork for this story. We were off to a good start!
The next two stories were pretty rough to get through. First, we had a story about the Batman from Gotham by Gaslight. Writer John Layman and artist Dani do their best but it is a struggle to get through. Ditto for the story about Teen Justice written by Ivan Cohen and drawn by Eleanora Carlini. These two were just okay.
The next one written by David F. Walker and drawn by Gustavo Duarter features President Superman in a Bizarro tale. It is okay. The following one written by Derek Fridolfs and Dustin Nguyen and drawn by Nguyen is much better and features Batman Beyond. It is definitely the second best story in the book.
The rest are a pretty mixed back. There is a League of Shadows story that is pretty good. That is written by Sholly Fisch and nicely drawn by Vanesa Del Rey. The Unjustice League of America have a pretty decent story written by Tom Sniegoski and drawn by Justin Mason.
There is a Booster Gold story that is just alright. That one has a story by Brittany Holzherr and some decent art by Todd Nauck. There is also an okay Prez story by Jay Baruchel and drawn by Dominike “Domo” Stanton. It is just okay to be honest.
The best story in the book comes from writer Tom King and drawn by Scott Koblish. It is a great story about Lobo and the holiday of Hannukah. It is pretty fun without trying too hard. I wish the rest of the book followed it’s example. This wasn’t bad but could definitely have been better.
