This book has been a long time coming.
This was rumored to be the story at the end of Tom King’s run on Batman. Whatever happened, this book and story are worth the wait. The story is as strong as can be. And the artwork is out of this world.
This is really a great comic, one that could end up being a classic.
Bruce gets a surprise meeting with Andrea Beaumont at the beginning of the issue. Her son is missing and she has gone to Bruce.
Bruce basically turns to Selina. And then the two of them are off to probe into the mystery.
Some making out ensues.
I do get a bit sick of the “Bat” and “Cat” sweet talking that plagued King’s initial Batman run. But, here, Tom King has a much better control of the story. He makes it much more complex than the usual romance with these too. He goes very deep with this.
The Joker makes an appearance.
What is he up to?
Why does Selina meet with him? Is she up to something?
A lot happens in this issue very quickly. It all leads up to an ending (and a surprise villain) that I just did not see coming. I really loved where this is going.
King does a great job. And I have to say that this is the best artwork that Clay Mann has every produced. His work here is stellar.
I had high expectations going into this book. I’m happy to say that this issue exceeded them.
Well done and well worth the wait.
