This issue is just another plodding issue of this title.
I was willing to give it a little time, but I have come to realize that it isn’t going to get any better than this. There is no plan for this title and it is not going anywhere.
That is probably the biggest shame of Tynion’s run.
Well, we finally get a look at the Ghost-Maker, who is Gotham’a newest hero!
Tynion has been hinting at his appearance since the 100th issue, and now we finally get more than a peak of him. It reminds me of what Tynion did with the Punchline character.
And just like Punchline, Ghost-Maker is pretty terrible.
The plot here is fairly simplistic. Ghost-Maker announces that he wants to be Gotham City’s newest hero. He has motives that aren’t known at first. We basically see everything that leads up to their confrontation.
It feels very hackneyed and at times, dumb.
Ghost-Maker isn’t really a villain as so much as just an adversary for Batman.
Apparently, Ghost-Maker is someone we have met before in the DC Universe.
Who is he?
And why did this issue feel like a weird copy of Leviathan from the Superman titles?
We shall see.
This issue ends pretty awkwardly on top of everything else. Tynion still has a hard time writing Batman as a character and it shows here very much. I wish it were better.
The art isn’t bad, but it can’t save the story.
Overall, I hope this comic book turns around. This is pretty rough.
