I have enjoyed this Doom Patrol series as much as I have Nick Derington and Gerard Way’s first series.
The individual issues have been pretty great and it has had a nice and electric list of artists. This is the final issue of the series and it is definitely my favorite. They did a great job here for sure.
The first thing they did to automatically make is issue awesome is to have artist Nick Derington on pencils for this issue with artist Mike Allred on inks. Nobody draws the Doom Patrol better than Derington, and it is a joy to have him back on this title working with Allred. It is automatically wonderful.
We start off with an intriguing prologue that takes place in the future.
We then bounce back into the present. The Doom Patrol are in some weird dimension headed toward a weird planet. They are in the ambulance and it is completely strange and cool.
We get to see them have one last battle against perhaps the strangest foe of all.
It is a wacky and weird fight. I found myself laughing a lot. It is just so damn enjoyable. The battle eventually comes to a weird and strange conclusion.
And then, the last page happens.
It is a wonderful last page. I hope to god that this is not the last time that Gerard Way nor Nick Derington work on this title.
But that last image is so wonderful that it is almost perfect.
This is a well done final issue to a wonderful series.
