Writer Mark Russell and and artist Steve Pugh have done a really amazing job on this title. It is funny, adventurous and wholly original. I have to confess, I have laughed out loud a few times reading this book. It is very well done with a bit of a social message to it as well. I just love that in a book.
The issue starts us off on Freedom Unlimited at the Church of Jesus Christ: Businessman. We are at the funeral of Corey Spegnola, CEO of Aggrocorp. The scene of “mourning” is very funny and it cracked me up. It is a funny scene to start off the issue and then it judst gets better and better.
Why was Spagnola killed?
That question makes it’s way into the story in an inventive way.
The villainous Rick Canto has his plans in motion and they are devious and hysterical. Russell has a lot of fun writing this character and it shows in every scene that Canto is in.
Meanwhile, intrepid reporter Shelly Bly is trying to find a way off this island. She comes across some of the “rejects” that inhabit this place. The narrative thrust of the issue is “Can Shelly possibly get off the island with what she knows?”
It is really great how the creative team handles it all.
Steve Pugh has really done an incredible job as usual on this series. His artwork is expressive and his storytelling is great.
Billionaire Island is a well designed and well constructed comic. They just have to stick the landing now and this will be a memorable tale indeed.
